Argentina is ramping up sunflower seed shipments to global markets, helping ease price pressures. At the end of the year, the country shipped two consignments totaling approximately 50–60 thousand tons to Portugal and South Africa, signaling a return to active export operations, reports «ProAgro Group».
Analysts predict that Argentina’s export activity could intensify in the coming weeks. Another vessel carrying sunflower seeds is expected to be dispatched toward the Black Sea region, although the exact destination port has not yet been determined.
The increased supply from South America helps ease tensions in the global market caused by reduced sunflower production in the Northern Hemisphere. In the short to medium term, this may limit further price growth and even create conditions for price correction.
In the 2025/26 season (October–September), Argentina’s sunflower seed exports are estimated at around 460,000 tons, more than three times higher than the previous marketing year’s 133,000 tons.
At the same time, the country is expanding its processing capacity. In 2026, sunflower processing volumes could reach a record 5.4 million tons, supporting growth in exports of sunflower oil and meal—approximately 1.83 million tons and 1.75 million tons, respectively.
As previously reported, the All-Ukrainian Farmers’ Congress noted that sunflower remains the most profitable crop to cultivate.
