A rapid alert system for threats related to food, feed, and food contact materials has started operating in Ukraine. Its implementation followed the example of the European RASFF system, which has been ensuring the rapid exchange of information between EU countries for many years.
According to Order No. 478 of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, which entered into force on November 19, 2025, the new system will allow for:
- rapidly exchanging alerts about the detection of unsafe food, feed, and packaging;
- immediately withdrawing unsafe products from circulation;
- warning consumers about potential risks;
- coordinating the actions of government bodies and businesses to prevent the spread of unsafe goods.
The State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection emphasizes that this is an important step towards increasing food safety levels in Ukraine and harmonizing with European standards. “The system will allow us to act quickly and effectively to protect consumers from unsafe products and feed,” the service’s announcement reads.
It is expected that the new mechanism will become part of a broader strategy for Ukraine’s integration into the European food market, increase consumer confidence, and contribute to the development of exports.
