Onion prices in Ukraine continue to gradually decrease this week. Producers report a noticeable weakening in demand for this product, while supply in the market remains excessive.
According to the data monitoring by the EastFruit project, today farmers are offering onions for sale in the range of 3-8 UAH/kg, which is 22% cheaper on average than at the end of last week.
Due to prolonged rains during the harvesting period, the quality of the harvest suffered significantly, as a result of which the produce turned out to be unsuitable for long-term storage. In an attempt to sell such onions as quickly as possible, farmers are currently repeatedly reporting reductions in selling prices. Meanwhile, high-quality products are rarely offered for sale now, as farmers prefer to keep them in storage, awaiting higher prices.
It is worth noting that onions in Ukraine are currently 68% cheaper on average than at the beginning of December 2024.
