Investors have abandoned plans to build an animal waste processing plant in Ukraine’s Poltava region due to the war. The project, which had been approved back in 2021 and envisaged the creation of a modern facility for the disposal of livestock waste, was finally halted after the introduction of martial law, ProAgro Group reports.
According to Serhii Frolov, Director of the Department of Agro-Industrial Development of the Poltava Regional Military Administration, investors who had been ready to construct an animal waste processing plant in the region withdrew from the project because of the ongoing war in Ukraine.
The planned plant was expected to become an important element of environmental safety and help address the acute shortage of animal waste management capacity in the region, as former disposal facilities in the Poltava region have not been operating for many years.
Frolov noted that several local communities were prepared to allocate land plots for the project, while a regional program предусмотрed funding of UAH 24 million. However, these funds were never used. Only laboratory equipment for diagnostics and sterilization worth UAH 266,000 was purchased and later transferred to the Regional State Laboratory of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection.
As previously reported, the Cabinet of Ministers amended Resolution No. 1102 of October 20, 2023, postponing the application of the new National Waste List and the Waste Classification Procedure for taxation purposes until January 1, 2027.
