Ukraine has launched its spring sowing campaign for spring crops. As of March 16, 2026, farmers have sown 53.4 thousand hectares of spring grains and legumes, according to the Ministry of Economy, as reported by ProAgro Group.
The sowing campaign has already started in nine regions: Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Kherson, and Chernivtsi.
The largest area so far has been planted with peas — 25.6 thousand hectares, which accounts for about 9% of the forecast.
Farmers have also sown:
- barley — 16.9 thousand hectares (2% of the forecast);
- wheat — 5.4 thousand hectares (3%);
- oats — 5.4 thousand hectares (4%).
At the same time, sowing of corn, buckwheat, and millet has not yet begun.
Overall, the total area under spring grains and legumes in 2026 is expected to reach 6 million hectares, slightly below 6.1 million hectares in 2025.
Earlier, it was reported that farmers in Zaporizhzhia region had also begun sowing despite frontline risks.
