Starting today, the annual spring-summer spawning ban has begun on most fishery water bodies in Ukraine, aimed at ensuring favorable conditions for the reproduction of aquatic biological resources, ProAgro Group reports.

According to the State Agency of Fisheries, the timing differs for certain water bodies: in particular, restrictions will be introduced from April 5 at the Dnipro Reservoir, and from April 10 at the Kyiv, Kaniv, Kremenchuk, Kamianske, Dniester, and Pechenihy reservoirs, as well as on the Dnipro and Desna rivers.

During the spawning period, fishing is allowed only from the shore, outside spawning grounds, using hook gear (no more than two hooks per angler) or spinning with one artificial lure. At the same time, commercial fishing, spearfishing, and the movement of vehicles and motorized vessels are prohibited (except for designated shipping lanes and vessels of controlling authorities).

“During spawning, fish are highly vulnerable due to their focus on reproduction and need protection. Our common task is to ensure maximum peace for them. Therefore, I urge anglers to treat spawning fish responsibly and comply with the established restrictions to ensure successful reproduction of fish populations,” said Head of the State Agency of Fisheries Ihor Klymenok.

As reported, 3.5 million juvenile fish of herbivorous and native species — including silver carp, grass carp, common carp, pike-perch, asp, catfish, and pike — will be released into the Desna and Seim rivers in the Chernihiv region this year.
