The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has extended state support for aquaculture producers to the entire territory of the country. The relevant amendments to Resolution No. 1409 of December 10, 2024, were adopted on April 1, according to ProAgro Group.

The approved changes improve the support mechanism: enterprises engaged in aquaculture can now receive compensation of up to 20% of costs for breeding, maintaining, and growing freshwater fish across all regions of Ukraine. Previously, compensation of up to 30% was available only to enterprises operating in frontline and war-affected areas.

The provisions regarding the age groups of stocking material eligible for financial support have also been clarified.

At the same time, the направления eligible for financial support remain unchanged and include:

• partial reimbursement of costs for growing stocking material intended for further sale;
• partial reimbursement of expenses for purchasing stocking material for restocking water bodies aimed at commercial production.

Thanks to this support, enterprises will be able to expand production capacities, increase the reproduction of aquatic bioresources, and supply additional fish products accessible to a wide range of consumers. This will also help reduce production costs.

“Expanding state support for aquaculture will allow enterprises to restore production cycles, increase output, and invest in development. Special emphasis is placed on supporting farms in affected regions, where recovery requires additional resources. This decision will also help reduce import dependence, improve industry competitiveness, create conditions for investment development, and strengthen Ukraine’s food security,” said Taras Vysotskyi, Deputy Minister of Economy.

The adoption of these changes will contribute to the development of aquaculture as a promising sector within fisheries and agriculture, enhance the industry’s investment attractiveness, and ensure stable supply of fish products to the domestic market.

As reported, the annual spring-summer fishing ban began on April 1 in Ukraine to ensure favorable conditions for the reproduction of aquatic bioresources.
