In the third decade of October, abnormally warm weather, typical for this period, persisted in Ukraine, accompanied by precipitation. According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center (Ukrhydrometcenter), on the warmest days, the average daily temperature reached +10–16 °C, corresponding to the climatic indicators of late September – early October. During the day, the air warmed up to +14–15 °C in the north and up to +20–22 °C in the south and west. Overall, the average temperature for the decade exceeded the norm by 1.5–3.0 °C.
The movement of atmospheric fronts caused rain across the entire territory of the country. Most regions received close to the decade’s precipitation norm, while certain areas in the central, southern, and eastern parts received 2–5 times more.
Agrometeorological conditions were favorable for the start of vegetation of winter crops. The rains ensured the replenishment of moisture reserves in the soil. As of October 31, the level of productive moisture was sufficient and optimal in most areas. Even in Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Odesa regions, where a months-long drought persisted, the October precipitation significantly improved moisture supply, which, together with the warm weather, created conditions for the active growth of winter crops.
Tillering began in the early sowings of winter wheat at the end of the month. In other areas, grain germination, seedling emergence, and the formation of the third leaf were observed. The general condition of the plants is assessed as good and satisfactory.
