Ukraine Has Sown Over 800,000 Hectares of Spring Grains

As of April 7, all categories of farms in Ukraine have sown a total of 828.3 thousand hectares of grains and legumes, accounting for 14% of the projected area, according to ProAgro Group.

According to the Ministry of Economy, the breakdown includes 111.1 thousand hectares of spring wheat, 420.9 thousand hectares of spring barley, 186.1 thousand hectares of peas, and 86.5 thousand hectares of oats.

The leading regions in terms of sowing progress are:

  • Odesa region – 162 thousand hectares (wheat – 10 thousand ha, barley – 35 thousand ha, peas – 95 thousand ha, oats – 1.2 thousand ha);
  • Ternopil region – 80.9 thousand hectares (wheat – 13.3 thousand ha, barley – 58.4 thousand ha, peas – 4.1 thousand ha, oats – 4.6 thousand ha);
  • Mykolaiv region – 73.3 thousand hectares (wheat – 2.1 thousand ha, barley – 38.5 thousand ha, peas – 31.2 thousand ha, oats – 0.5 thousand ha).

In some regions, farmers have also begun sowing other crops. For example, in Dnipropetrovsk region, 0.25 thousand hectares have already been planted with millet.

At the same time, farmers continue sowing industrial crops. In total, 60.7 thousand hectares have been sown so far, including 42.3 thousand hectares of sugar beet, which represents 21% of the planned area.

Additionally, farmers in Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Rivne, Sumy, and Ternopil regions have already sown 18.3 thousand hectares of sunflower.

In Lviv region, 0.1 thousand hectares have been planted with soybeans.

As previously reported, as of March 31, spring sowing was underway in 20 regions, with a total of 461.4 thousand hectares sown, representing 8% of the planned area for grains and legumes this year.
