Potato prices in Ukrainian supermarkets have started to increase, according to recent market monitoring. In major retail chains, prices currently range between UAH 11 and UAH 21 per kilogram, averaging about UAH 0.40 higher than in November, ProAgro Group reports.
Market analysts note that current retail prices only partially cover producers’ costs. Additional pressure has been driven by changes in planting patterns, as some farming enterprises significantly expanded potato acreage, in some cases doubling planted areas. This resulted in a temporary increase in supply but failed to eliminate overall price pressure.
Despite limited state support, Ukrainian-grown potatoes remain competitive due to their high quality and stable demand. With domestic production volumes relatively modest, locally produced potatoes are usually sold first, and declining stocks are expected to support further price growth.
Analysts forecast that in spring 2026, particularly between March and May, the market may face another phase of rising potato prices. While the increase is expected to be gradual, the upward trend is likely to persist.
Earlier reports indicated that Ukraine expanded potato planting areas by around 25% this year, resulting in a 50% increase in total harvest.
