In the first 17 days of February, Ukraine’s railways transported 1.496 million tonnes of grain for export, according to an online meeting between Ukrzaliznytsia and agricultural market participants held on February 19, ProAgro Group reports.
The average daily loading of grain cargo in February amounted to 85.2 thousand tonnes, which is 6% higher than in January.
At the same time, Deputy Director of the Department of Transportation Technology and Commercial Operations at Ukrzaliznytsia, Valerii Tkachov, noted that starting from February 10 the average daily loading exceeded 100 thousand tonnes. In particular, on February 15, 112.5 thousand tonnes of grain were loaded across the railway network.
In total, 1.637 million tonnes of grain were transported by rail in February, which is 6% more than in January but 3% less than in February last year.
In export traffic, 1.496 million tonnes of grain were shipped by rail. This figure is 7% higher than in January and 1.2% above the level recorded in February last year. Traditionally, the vast majority of grain exports are transported toward seaports, which currently account for 91% of total volumes. Exports via western border crossings make up the remaining 9%.
As reported earlier, in the first 20 days of January this year grain exports by rail increased to 1.806 million tonnes, which was 17% higher than in December last year but 15% lower than in the same period of January 2025.
