Since the beginning of the 2025/26 marketing year (July–June), European Union countries have exported 25.8 million tonnes of grain and processed grain products, which is 19% more than during the same period of the previous season, ProAgro Group reports.
According to the European Commission, exports of soft wheat reached 15.4 million tonnes, up 10% year-on-year. The main destinations were Morocco, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia.
Barley exports recorded the strongest growth, increasing by 79% year-on-year to 6.2 million tonnes. At the same time, corn exports declined by 16% to around 1.05 million tonnes. Exports of durum wheat nearly doubled, exceeding 640 thousand tonnes, indicating strong global demand for European grain.
North African and Middle Eastern countries remain the key importers of EU soft wheat in the current season. Morocco purchased more than 2.5 million tonnes, Egypt around 1.2 million tonnes, and Saudi Arabia over 1 million tonnes. Significant volumes of barley were also shipped to Saudi Arabia, China, Jordan, and Turkey.
The European Commission notes that export data remain incomplete for several countries, including France, Bulgaria, Ireland, and Poland, which may affect final figures. Nevertheless, current trends confirm the strengthening position of the EU as one of the world’s leading grain exporters in the 2025/26 season.
As previously reported, as of February 20, Ukraine exported 21.2 million tonnes of grain and legumes since the start of the 2025/26 MY, which is more than 7 million tonnes or 24.9% less than during the same period of the previous season.
