The European Commission is considering a lawsuit against three member states — Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia — due to their refusal to implement the updated trade agreement between the EU and Ukraine. This is reported by Politico, citing sources in the European Commission.
Despite the fact that the EU officially extended the duty-free access regime for Ukrainian agricultural goods, the mentioned countries maintained national bans on the import of grain and other products from Ukraine. This contradicts the principles of the single market, which does not allow unilateral trade decisions.
«These actions undermine the unity of EU trade policy and cast doubt on the joint support for Ukraine,» Politico sources state.
The European Commission has already sent official requests to the governments of the three countries. If they do not voluntarily lift the restrictions, Brussels may initiate legal proceedings through the Court of Justice of the European Union.
