Farmers in Ukraine’s Chernihiv region have begun spring fieldwork as part of the 2026 sowing campaign. Agricultural enterprises in the Borzna and Kulykivka districts were the first to start field operations on March 11, marking the beginning of the new agricultural season in the region, according to ProAgro Group.
According to preliminary plans, about 1.16 million hectares of agricultural land will be sown in the region this year. Grain production is expected to exceed 3.2 million tons, which will help meet domestic demand and create additional export potential.
The spring sowing campaign in northern Ukraine has started under favorable weather conditions. This allowed farmers to begin field operations on time and quickly start seasonal work.
Before entering the fields, agricultural enterprises prepared the soil, serviced agricultural machinery, and secured the necessary seeds and mineral fertilizers.
Regional authorities expect the pace of the sowing campaign to increase in the coming weeks, while Chernihiv region is likely to maintain its status as one of Ukraine’s key agricultural regions.
As previously reported, in Poltava region farmers plan to sow 1.4 million hectares this spring across all categories of farms, with the largest areas traditionally allocated to grain and industrial crops.
