Applications have opened in Ukraine’s State Agrarian Register for the allocation of modular grain storage facilities to agricultural producers. The initiative is being implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, with financial support from the Government of Canada, ProAgro Group reports.
Farmers from Poltava, Rivne, Volyn, and Zhytomyr regions are eligible to participate, provided they are registered in the State Agrarian Register and cultivate between 200 and 1,000 hectares actively used for agricultural production in the designated regions. Selected participants will receive modular grain storage units with a capacity of 1,000 tonnes each, enabling total storage of up to 100,000 tonnes of grain.
The new FAO program aims to strengthen the stability of Ukraine’s agricultural sector by expanding access to modern grain storage infrastructure, reducing post-harvest losses, and lowering logistics costs. Special priority will be given to rye producers and women farmers.
“Grain storage is particularly critical for rye producers. Declining production poses risks to domestic supply. Adequate storage capacity allows farmers to safely store harvests, secure better prices, and choose the optimal time to sell their grain,” said Deputy Minister of Economy Denys Bashlyk.
According to Shakhnoza Muminova, Head of the FAO Office in Ukraine, on-farm storage gives farmers greater control over marketing their produce. This is especially important amid damaged infrastructure and disrupted markets, when producers are often forced to sell grain immediately after harvest.
Applications will be accepted until January 31, 2026, via the State Agrarian Register. Following the review process, selected applicants will receive notifications through the register with details on next steps and assistance terms. Submitting an application does not guarantee receipt of a grain storage unit, as the number of facilities is limited.
Earlier reports noted that in 2015 FAO provided 615 modular grain storage units to farmers in frontline regions of Ukraine.
