Farms Slow Down Milk Production Amid Falling Prices

The industrial sector is slowing down the pace of raw milk production amid declining purchase prices, surplus finished products, and weak market demand, ProAgro Group reports.

According to preliminary data from the State Statistics Service, cited by the Association of Milk Producers, farms of all categories produced 507 thousand tons of raw milk in November 2025. This is 61 thousand tons less (-11%) compared to October 2025 and 28 thousand tons less (-5%) compared to November 2024. In January–November 2025, total milk production in Ukraine amounted to 6.38 million tons, which is 299 thousand tons (-4%) less than in the same period last year.

In November 2025, enterprises accounted for 52% of raw milk production, while household farms contributed 48%.

In particular, enterprises produced 266 thousand tons of raw milk last month, which is 1 thousand tons more (+0.5%) compared to October 2025 and 35 thousand tons more (+15%) compared to November 2024. In January–November 2025, commercial dairy farms produced 2.91 million tons of raw milk, which is 221 thousand tons (+8%) more than last year.

Household farms produced 241 thousand tons of milk in November 2025, which is 62 thousand tons less (-21%) compared to October 2025 and 63 thousand tons less (-21%) compared to November 2024. In January–November 2025, the household sector produced 3.47 million tons of raw milk, which is 520 thousand tons (-13%) less than in the same period last year.

“Raw milk production in Ukraine is declining primarily due to the household sector, which is gradually losing its key role in the dairy industry. The industrial sector is compensating for this decline and demonstrates stability in production. Despite blackouts and Russian missile and bomb attacks, the growth rates of raw milk production in Ukraine’s industrial sector since the beginning of 2025 have been among the best in Europe and globally,” said Heorhii Kukhaleyshvili, analyst at the Association of Milk Producers.

As reported, this year Ukraine’s dairy industry enterprises plan to process about 3.5 million tons of milk, which is 10% more than in 2024.
