In the current season, flax demonstrated the best yield performance at Technopol Agro LLC in Ukraine’s Kirovohrad region. The crop proved to be the most successful among all those grown, delivering yields of around 2.4 tonnes per hectare, ProAgro Group reports.

This was reported by Orest Hranat, brand manager of Technopol and agronomist at Technopol Agro, in a comment to The Ukrainian Farmer magazine. According to him, flax is a non-traditional crop for the enterprise and is grown in limited volumes. The harvested crop is marketed primarily as seed material.

At the same time, yields of other crops were slightly below planned levels due to adverse weather conditions during the growing season. In particular, wheat and rapeseed underperformed compared to expectations.

“Wheat yields turned out to be somewhat lower than we had planned, and rapeseed also showed weaker results. In previous years, our rapeseed yields usually exceeded 4 t/ha, while this season we harvested about 3.5 t/ha,” Hranat noted.

Sunflower yields were also below the farm’s typical levels. Instead of the usual 3.5–4 t/ha, the average yield this year was around 3 t/ha. Wheat averaged 6.5 t/ha compared to the planned 7.5–7.7 t/ha, despite crops looking strong early in the season and indicating high yield potential. Overall, the farm’s long-term average wheat yield typically ranges between 7.5 and 7.6 t/ha.

As previously reported, flax is making a comeback, with the oilseed strengthening its position due to growing demand from the EU.
