KSG Agro to renew one-third of its breeding sow herd in 2026

The agricultural holding KSG Agro has launched a large-scale herd renewal program: in 2026, it plans to replace about 30% of breeding sows at its pig complexes. The goal of the upgrade is to increase herd productivity, strengthen genetic potential, and ensure steady growth in the efficiency of the pig farming segment, ProAgro Group reports.

The company stated that as part of the program, 1,500 F1 sows will be replaced over the year out of a total of 4,500 head. The first deliveries of breeding sows from the leading Danish genetic program DanBred have already begun. It is expected that one-third of the total sow herd will be fully renewed by the end of 2026. Overall, as part of a long-term herd modernization program, KSG Agro plans to fully renew its sow population over the next two years.

“Rejuvenating the breeding herd is one of the key tools for improving the efficiency of modern pig farming. When a farm systematically introduces sows with new genetics, it essentially restarts the entire production cycle—from piglet quality to fattening economics. That is why we rely on F1 hybrids from the leading Danish DanBred program, which are characterized by high reproductive performance, offspring viability, and stable growth rates. For us, it is important not just to increase livestock numbers, but to build a more productive and healthy herd capable of delivering predictable results even under challenging market conditions. Ultimately, this means more high-quality pork, better production economics, and long-term sustainability of the pig farming segment,” said KSG Agro Chairman of the Board of Directors Serhii Kasianov.

As reported, in February this year KSG Agro launched a cogeneration unit at one of its pig complexes. The unit, with a capacity of 1.2 MW of electricity and 1 MW of heat, made it possible to fully cover the enterprise’s energy needs during the autumn-winter period.
