Pig prices in Ukraine expected to rise to UAH 77-78/kg

Purchase prices for live pigs in Ukraine are expected to increase to UAH 77-78 per kg in the week of March 23–29, according to analysts from the Meat Industry Association, ProAgro Group reports.

Experts note that the pork market is showing an upward trend, supported by rising global meat prices. At the same time, geopolitical factors continue to influence international markets and indirectly affect Ukraine’s agricultural sector.

Amid increasing production costs in crop farming – particularly due to higher fuel and fertilizer prices – pig farming may remain a more stable and profitable segment for agricultural producers.

However, the key risk for the sector is not market conditions but epizootic threats, especially the spread of African swine fever (ASF). Analysts emphasize that further industry development will depend on effective biosecurity measures and veterinary control.

Prices in European markets remain higher. In Germany, pork prices are equivalent to around UAH 86.6/kg, while in Poland, live pig prices range between UAH 53.7 and 74/kg.

Under favorable conditions, experts believe pig farming could partially offset losses in other agricultural sectors and remain an important source of income for farmers.

As reported earlier, pig prices in Ukraine have been steadily increasing since early March after stabilizing at the end of February.
