Shortage of High-Quality Apples May Push Prices Higher in Ukraine

A shortage of high-quality apples is emerging in the Ukrainian market, which may drive prices upward in the near future, according to ProAgro Group.

As Vitalii Nihalatii, director of the Bukovyna-based “Molodizhna Ahrarna Spilka,” told Sadivnytstvo po-ukrainsky, the issue is linked to the особенності of the previous season, when a significant share of produce was placed into storage in an overripe condition.

“In my opinion, there is little high-quality commercial apple supply on the market, and prices will rise,” he noted.

The situation has been exacerbated by the fact that not all producers used ripening delay agents, such as Harvista, which helps harvest fruit with better storage characteristics.

As a result, part of the яблука loses quality more quickly in storage, already affecting supply and creating preconditions for price growth.

Earlier, it was reported that apple prices in Ukraine in the 2025/26 season reached abnormal levels, causing apples to lose their status as the cheapest fruit and begin directly competing in price with imported bananas and citrus fruits.
