Ukraine’s spring sowing campaign is gaining pace, with farmers already planting 180,000 hectares of early crops, ProAgro Group reports.
According to Ukrainian Grain Association, barley accounts for the largest share of planted areas at 86.1 thousand hectares. Peas follow with 51.2 thousand hectares, while spring wheat and oats have been sown on 20.5 thousand and 20.8 thousand hectares respectively.
Sowing activity is gradually accelerating as weather conditions improve and soil temperatures rise. Traditionally, early grains and legumes are the first to be planted during the campaign.
In the coming weeks, farmers are expected to expand fieldwork and begin sowing later crops such as corn, sunflower, and soybeans, which form the основу cropping structure in Ukraine.
Earlier reports indicated that as of March 16, 2026, farmers had sown 53.4 thousand hectares of early crops across nine regions.
