Ukraine is ready to ensure maximum transparency and provide additional guarantees to the Moldovan side regarding the quality and safety of poultry products. This was stated by Oleksii Sobolev, Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, ProAgro Group reports.
During a meeting with representatives of Moldova’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and the National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA), the parties discussed the situation surrounding Ukrainian poultry exports and ways to resolve the temporary restrictions.
Sobolev emphasized that Moldova is an important market for Ukrainian poultry meat. According to him, exports last year amounted to 18.4 thousand tonnes worth USD 32.7 million. At the same time, the decision to temporarily suspend imports, in his view, requires the fastest possible resolution.
The parties agreed to work on strengthening inspection control of Ukrainian poultry exporters.
“Ukraine is confident in the quality of its products, which is confirmed by stable exports to the European Union market. We are ready for maximum openness and to provide additional guarantees to the Moldovan side, including laboratory testing in accredited laboratories upon request. Our goal is to promptly resolve all technical issues and lift the restrictions on poultry exports, as there are no objective reasons for a prolonged suspension of supplies. We expect trade to return to its usual dynamics in the near future,” Sobolev said.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue joint efforts to remove barriers to trade.
On January 26, ANSA announced a temporary suspension of imports of poultry meat and processed poultry products from Ukraine. The decision was based on the detection of the prohibited substance metronidazole in feed batches previously imported from a neighboring country.
As previously reported, in 2025 Moldova was heavily dependent on imports of milk and dairy products, with Ukraine supplying more than two-thirds of these products to the local market.
