In the first half of the 2025/26 marketing year, Ukraine resumed rye imports. From July to mid-December, about 1.5 thousand tonnes of rye were imported into the country, mainly from Poland and Germany. These are the largest rye import volumes recorded over at least the past four seasons, reports ProAgro Group.
The shift in market balance indicates a decline in domestic supply and a growing need to cover demand through foreign deliveries. European countries have become the main suppliers of rye to Ukraine in the current season, whereas imports of this crop had previously remained minimal.
At the same time, in the 2024/25 marketing year Ukraine held the status of a net exporter of rye. During that period, 10.7 thousand tonnes were shipped to foreign markets, with Spain and Israel as the main export destinations. Rye imports also took place, but mostly at the end of the season.
As previously reported, in the 2025/26 season Ukraine is expected to significantly increase imports of rye and rye flour to 15–16 thousand tonnes, which is five times higher than in the previous marketing year.
