Ukrainian farmers are increasingly opting for domestically produced seeds, driven by competitive quality and more attractive pricing, ProAgro Group reports.

As noted by Executive Director Seed Association of Ukraine Suzana Hryhorenko, key seed suppliers to Ukraine include Austria, France, Spain, Romania, and Turkey. In addition, Chile plays an important role by supplying parent seed materials used for hybrid production within Ukraine rather than finished products.

At the same time, domestic seed production capacities continue to expand. Ukrainian seeds are now officially recognized as equivalent to European standards not only for corn and cereals, but also for sugar and fodder beet, sunflower, rapeseed, and soybeans.

According to Hryhorenko, this demonstrates that Ukrainian producers are capable of competing on international markets while fully meeting domestic demand.

Imported seeds remain generally more expensive due to logistics, customs procedures, and currency fluctuations. As a result, farmers who can choose between comparable domestic and imported products are increasingly favoring local options.

As previously reported, the cost of the 2026 sowing campaign in Ukraine is expected to increase by around 15% year-on-year, reaching approximately UAH 700 billion.
