More sugar beets have already been processed in Volyn than harvested

The sugar beet harvesting campaign has been completed in the Volyn region. This year, work was carried out on an area of 9 thousand hectares. A total of 578.5 thousand tons of root crops were harvested with an average yield of 650 centners per hectare.

The entire harvest has been sent for processing, according to the Volyn Regional State Administration. This is provided by two enterprises in the region – Hnidava and Marianivka sugar factories, which operate normally. Since the beginning of the season, approximately 650 thousand tons of beets have been processed and about 100 thousand tons of sugar have been produced there.

It is noted that the sugar content of the root crops this season is consistently high. In October, it was about 16.5%, and now it is 17.7–18.5%, which ensures a high sugar yield. Such indicators largely depend on weather conditions. In particular, light frosts positively affect the accumulation of sugar in the root crops.

“It is important that agricultural producers ensure high-quality raw materials and a stable volume of supplies to our processing enterprises. This is support for the region’s economy, jobs, and food security,” the regional administration noted.
