russia Attacks Two Civilian Bulk Carriers in the Black Sea

Today, while en route to the port of Chornomorsk, a russian attack drone struck a civilian vessel sailing under the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis, ProAgro Group reports. The ship was heading to load grain cargo within the framework of the Ukrainian Maritime Corridor.

According to Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development Oleksii Kuleba, there were casualties on board the vessel. However, its seaworthiness was not compromised, and the ship is currently heading to the nearest port.

In addition, another vessel flying the flag of the Comoros Islands was hit near the port of Odesa. The ship was transporting soybeans. As a result of the attack, one crew member — a citizen of Syria — was killed. Rescue units have been dispatched to the scene.

“This is yet another confirmation that russia is deliberately targeting civilian objects, international shipping, and food logistics. Ukraine is doing everything possible to ensure safety and to fulfill its export obligations despite constant attacks,” the government official said.

Earlier reports indicated that over the past three months russia has significantly intensified attacks on Ukraine’s maritime logistics, damaging at least 20 commercial vessels and destroying or severely damaging nearly 50 port infrastructure facilities.
