In the 2025/26 marketing year, Ukraine maintained its position as the leading supplier of sunflower oil to the European Union, according to the German Union for the Promotion of Oil and Protein Plants (UFOP), citing data from the European Commission report, ProAgro Group reports.
From July 1, 2025, to February 1, 2026, EU countries imported slightly less than 1.04 million tons of sunflower oil, compared with 1.28 million tons during the same period of the previous year. Out of this volume, Ukraine supplied about 0.95 million tons.
According to research by Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft, this corresponds to a market share of nearly 92%.
However, export volumes were significantly lower than last year, when shipments reached 1.2 million tons, mainly due to reduced raw material supply on the domestic market.
According to the report, Ukraine’s sunflower harvest declined year-on-year from 13 million tons in 2024 to 10.5 million tons in 2025. The smaller harvest reduced processing volumes and limited the country’s export potential for sunflower oil.
In addition, russian attacks on infrastructure and port facilities created pressure on logistics, although market reports indicate that export flows have stabilized.
Moldova and Serbia became the second and third largest suppliers of sunflower oil to the EU, with market shares of 5% and just under 2%, respectively. Supplies from Moldova increased year-on-year, while shipments from Serbia remained significantly lower than last year.

Earlier it was reported that Ukraine retained global leadership in sunflower oil exports in 2024, exporting products worth $5.12 billion, which accounted for 36.8% of the global market and 20.8% of Ukraine’s total agricultural exports.
