EU mission to audit Ukraine’s state control system in the pig sector

In April 2026, a mission of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE) will begin an audit of Ukraine’s state control system in the pig sector, ProAgro Group reports.

The announcement was made by Serhii Tkachuk, Head of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, during the agency’s public activity report.

According to him, Ukraine had long requested such an audit, and through negotiations the issue has finally moved forward.

“This work is both important and demanding, especially considering that the new law on veterinary medicine and animal welfare entered into force in March, while the audit will begin already in April,” Tkachuk noted.

He also recalled that from September to October 2025, a DG SANTE mission conducted an audit in Ukraine focusing on state control over residues of veterinary medicines, pesticides and contaminants in animals and animal products.

The results of that audit were positive. The assessment confirmed that Ukraine’s state control system complies with the principles and approaches applied in the European Union. Auditors also noted that control procedures are consistent, laboratory testing is reliable, and responses to violations are effective.

Earlier it was reported that in January 2026 the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the State Target Economic Program for the Development of Livestock Production until 2033, aimed at restoring the sector’s production potential and increasing livestock numbers.
