Prices for greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine have increased this week due to a temporary supply shortage, ProAgro Group reports.
Market experts attribute the price growth to reduced imports, particularly from Turkey, where shipments have declined in recent weeks.
As of the end of the week, tomatoes are being sold at UAH 120–140 per kg, which is on average 10% higher than at the end of the previous reporting period.
Earlier in March, importers and wholesalers focused on selling off previously purchased stocks, while new shipments entered the market in limited volumes. This resulted in a shortage on the domestic market, allowing suppliers to raise prices.
Market participants expect an increase in tomato imports from Turkey in the near future, which should help balance supply and stabilize prices.
Currently, imported tomatoes in Ukraine are priced on average 45% higher than during the same period last year.
As previously reported, vegetable prices in Ukraine generally declined in mid-March, with some products continuing a downward trend that began at the end of winter.
