Kirovohrad Region Becomes Ukraine’s Leader in Sunflower Production

The Kirovohrad Region accounts for 14% of Ukraine’s total sunflower harvest in the 2025/26 marketing year. This was reported by Valeriia Furmanova, Director of the Department of Agro-Industrial Development of the Regional State Administration, according to ProAgro Group.

According to her, farmers in the region have already finalized production plans and determined the crop structure for the next season. In total, about 1.75 million hectares are planned to be sown for the upcoming harvest.

Traditionally, grain and industrial crops will form the backbone of agricultural production in the Kirovohrad region, accounting for 48.2% and 46.1% of the total sowing structure, respectively. This distribution reflects the region’s specialization and steady demand for its products on both domestic and foreign markets.

In 2026, wheat acreage is expected to increase by 19.9 thousand hectares, nearly a quarter more than last year. At the same time, areas under barley and corn are projected to decline slightly.

Special attention is also being given to the development of the sugar industry. Next year, the area under sugar beet is planned to expand to 11.2 thousand hectares, which is 72.3% more than last year. This growth is linked to plans by regional sugar plants to increase processing volumes.

Previously, it was reported [a1] that farmers in the Poltava region harvested more than 4 million tonnes of grain and 1 million tonnes of sugar beet in the current season.
