Procurement prices for live pigs in Ukraine are expected to fall to UAH 67–68 per kg this week, according to analysts from the Meat Industry Association of Ukraine, ProAgro Group reports.
Experts attribute the price weakening primarily to seasonal demand contraction. Additional pressure on the market comes from power supply disruptions and a challenging African swine fever (ASF) situation. At the same time, forecast prices for live pigs may vary by region due to uneven distribution of production and processing capacities across Ukraine’s meat industry.
“At the same time, international approaches to ASF control are evolving. In its latest analytical report, the FAO notes that safe and effective ASF vaccines are moving beyond purely theoretical solutions and may become tools for systemic disease control — provided they are applied alongside biosecurity measures and veterinary monitoring. For Ukrainian pig farming, this offers an opportunity to stabilize production and ease one of the key price pressure factors,” the association said.
On Germany’s VEZG, prices for standard pig carcasses this week are set at €1.50/kg (UAH 76.72/kg), while sow carcasses are priced at €0.73/kg (UAH 37.34/kg). Prices are quoted excluding VAT.
On Poland’s CennikRolnicze, the average price for live pigs stands at PLN 4.58/kg (UAH 55.46/kg), with a price range of PLN 4.0–5.2/kg (UAH 48.44–62.97/kg).
Current global price trends (carcass weight):
- EU – €1.46/kg (0%)
- Brazil – €1.40/kg (–8%)
- USA – €1.62/kg (+3%)
- Canada – €1.27/kg (–1%)
As reported earlier, during February 9–15, live pig prices in Ukraine were expected to remain stable at UAH 69–70 per kg.
