Potato exports from Poland in the period from January to August 2025 reached a record 107.5 thousand tons. Ukraine remained the main buyer with a volume of 57,110 tons, which provided Polish farmers with almost half of the revenue – 73.94 million zlotys, or 14.8 million euros.
However, even despite record exports, the potato market in Poland faces a significant oversupply: its total production reached 6.8 million tons this year, while domestic consumption does not exceed 6 million tons. This caused a price collapse, writes FreshPlaza.
Currently, wholesale market prices have begun to stabilize after several months of sharp decline. Medium and high-quality potatoes sold in 15 kg bags (yellow and red varieties) are currently trading at a price of 0.40–0.53 zlotys or 0.08–0.11 euros per kilogram.
The Ministry of Agriculture of Poland clarified that EU rules do not allow intervention purchases of potatoes, so market stabilization depends on natural adjustments. Analysts expect a gradual price recovery throughout the remainder of the season, as historically, even in unfavorable years, prices rose at the end of the season.
