Reduced Oilseed Harvest Leaves Processing Without Raw Materials

In the 2025/26 marketing year, Ukraine will significantly reduce the production of oilseeds — the total volume will decrease by 14.4% and amount to about 19 million tons, whereas in the previous season it was 22.2 million tons. This is reported by “ProAgro Group”.

The largest decrease is expected for soybeans — minus 1.4 million tons (–21%), and sunflower — minus 1.5 million tons (–16.7%). Rapeseed will also lose 0.3 million tons (–7.3%). The reasons are unfavorable weather conditions, reduction of acreage in front-line regions, and competition with exports.

This poses a threat to the domestic processing industry, which has been actively developing in recent years. According to the Ministry of Economy, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, 3 million tons of new oilseed processing capacities have been launched in Ukraine, with another 3 million tons currently under construction. However, some plants are already operating with limited capacity utilization.

Stepan Kapshuk, General Director of the Ukroliyaprom association, emphasizes: “Processors are already feeling a shortage of raw materials, especially soybeans, which are actively exported without added value.” He warns that without state intervention, the industry might lose momentum: “If we don’t intervene now, we risk losing the pace of development of the processing industry and part of the added value that we could leave in the country.”
