russian Drone Damages Civilian Grain Vessel Leaving Chornomorsk Port

On March 4, a civilian vessel flying the flag of Panama was damaged by a russian drone while leaving the port of Chornomorsk. The ship was transporting corn via the Ukrainian maritime corridor. Several crew members were injured and are receiving medical assistance, ProAgro Group reports.

According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority, the vessel was carrying corn as part of Ukraine’s maritime export route.

Earlier, on January 9, a russian strike drone hit a civilian vessel flying the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis that was heading to the port of Chornomorsk to load grain cargo within the Ukrainian maritime corridor. The bulk carrier remained seaworthy and continued to the nearest port with several injured crew members on board.

On the same day, another vessel flying the flag of the Comoros and carrying soybeans was struck near the port of Odesa. A Syrian crew member was killed in that attack.

In December 2025, the intensity of russian attacks increased sharply after statements by Vladimir Putin about plans to “cut Ukraine off from the sea.” According to sources, 13 civilian vessels were damaged in just one month, mostly bulk carriers used to transport grain and iron ore. This accounts for nearly 10% of all ships damaged during the war.
