Strong demand drives further increase in potato prices

Trading activity in the potato market has intensified: amid rising demand, potatoes are actively purchased by both wholesale companies and retail chains, ProAgro Group reports.

At the same time, the supply of high-quality products remains somewhat limited, as some producers are holding back sales in anticipation of further price growth.

According to weekly monitoring data from EastFruit, potato prices in Ukrainian farms have increased by an average of 14% over the past week. Current prices range from UAH 8 to 15 per kilogram, depending on quality and batch size.

Some producers who are currently restraining sales expect a repeat of last year’s scenario, when prices climbed to UAH 30/kg. However, key market players believe such a situation is unlikely this season, as another sharp price increase could stimulate additional imports.

Compared to last season, potatoes are currently sold at prices averaging 55% lower than in late February 2025. Nevertheless, most farmers intend to continue raising prices, citing rapidly declining stocks in storage facilities.

Earlier it was reported that the previously stable potato market began to shift in mid-January, when steady demand and tightening supply pushed prices up to UAH 7–13/kg.
