Sugar beet acreage in Ukraine to decline to 170,000 ha in 2026 – forecast

According to the Ukrtsukor association, sugar beet acreage in Ukraine will amount to 170,000 hectares in 2026. This was announced by Ukrtsukor head Yana Kavushevska during the annual Sugar World 2026 conference, ProAgro Group reports.

She noted that the area under the crop will decrease compared to the previous season. In 2025, farmers cultivated sugar beet on 199,000 hectares.

According to the Ministry of Economy, last season’s sugar beet harvest totaled 11 million tonnes with an average yield of 55.3 t/ha.

At the same time, Kavushevska emphasized that “the actual average sugar beet yield in 2025 reached 58 t/ha (580 centners per hectare), which is a record for Ukraine.”

The highest yields were recorded in western regions: 77 t/ha in Volyn region, 75 t/ha in Lviv region, and 73 t/ha in Ternopil region. The average sugar content across Ukraine stood at 17.6%.

As previously reported, PP “Zakhidnyi Buh” in Volyn harvested record sugar beet yields last season. On some fields, yields reached 105–108 t/ha, with sugar content of 17.3–17.8% and an average sugar output of 15.5 t/ha, matching French performance indicators.
