Ukraine Enters the Top 5 Countries with the Largest Share of Agricultural Land

Ukraine has entered the top five countries worldwide with the highest share of agricultural land in its total land structure. This is evidenced by aggregated assessments from international agricultural and land-use studies, ProAgro Group reports.

Agricultural land accounts for more than two-thirds of Ukraine’s territory, making it one of the highest indicators globally. Arable land constitutes the largest share, with a significant portion represented by fertile chernozem soils, which provides the country with strong potential in crop production and agricultural exports.

Other countries with the largest shares of agricultural land include states with well-developed agricultural sectors and a high dependence on farming: Bangladesh, where more than 70% of the territory is used for agriculture; India, with around 60%; Denmark, approximately 60–62%; and Moldova, about 74%.

The ranking order may vary depending on the calculation methodology (whether pastures, perennial crops, or only arable land are included). However, Ukraine consistently remains among the world’s top five countries by the share of agricultural land.

At the same time, Ukraine stands out due to the combination of vast arable areas and favorable soil and climate conditions.

Experts note that such a land structure shapes Ukraine’s strategic role in the global food market, while also increasing the need for sustainable land use, soil fertility preservation, and effective land resource management.
