Ukraine increases nitrogen fertilizer imports by 26.4% in 2025

In 2025, Ukraine imported a total of 2.94 million tonnes of mineral fertilizers, including 1.77 million tonnes of nitrogen fertilizers, ProAgro Group reports.

For comparison, in 2024 fertilizer imports totaled 2.49 million tonnes, including 1.4 million tonnes of nitrogen fertilizers.

According to OSTCHEM, the largest import volumes in 2025 were recorded for:

  • urea – 650.4 thousand tonnes;
  • ammonium nitrate – 446.5 thousand tonnes.

The main suppliers of urea were Azerbaijan (392.7 thousand tonnes) and Turkmenistan (158.2 thousand tonnes), which together accounted for about 84.7% of Ukraine’s total urea imports.

For ammonium nitrate, the largest suppliers were Poland (214.2 thousand tonnes), Bulgaria (119.5 thousand tonnes), Kazakhstan (45.1 thousand tonnes) and Uzbekistan (29.4 thousand tonnes).

According to the latest Eurostat data, imports of Russian fertilizers into EU countries, particularly Poland, increased significantly in 2025. Compared with the previous year, supplies rose by nearly 1.5 times.

“This import structure increases price pressure on the Ukrainian domestic market and directly affects the utilization of domestic production capacities,” OSTCHEM noted.

Earlier it was reported that OSTCHEM plants produced 1.571 million tonnes of mineral fertilizers in 2025, which is 12.7% less than the 1.8 million tonnes produced in 2024.
