Ukraine’s largest potato producer forecasts expansion of processing capacity

Agricultural holding Continental Farmers Group is currently the largest potato producer in Ukraine, including potatoes for the chip industry. The company expects further development of potato processing, particularly the production of chips and French fries, ProAgro Group reports.

“In the chip potato segment, we act as growers, producing under contracts with processors. Chip production in Ukraine is fairly well developed, which makes it a highly competitive processing segment,” said Kostiantyn Shytiuk, Chief Operating Officer of Continental.

At the same time, the French fries market in Ukraine is growing, as the country currently ranks last in Europe in terms of per capita consumption.

“This means there is significant potential for expansion. At some point, one of the major international or local players may decide to open a plant producing not only French fries for fast food chains, but also frozen products for supermarkets,” added Georg von Nolcken, CEO of Continental Farmers Group.

As previously reported, Ukraine increased its potato acreage by 25% in 2025 and harvested a crop that was 50% larger year-on-year.
