The Sadok+ farming enterprise in Vinnytsia region is building a dairy goat farm designed for 2,000 milking goats, with a long-term target of producing up to 5 tonnes of milk per day, according to ProAgro Group.
“We consider this herd size optimal for artisanal milk processing, where cheese production can still be manually controlled,” said farm owner Tetiana Karpenko in a comment to The Ukrainian Farmer magazine.
Currently, the farm keeps 140 milking goats, with total livestock numbering 270 animals. Two additional buildings with large enclosed outdoor areas are under construction.
“For now, we can graze about 150 goats — there is a forest nearby, and they like eating leaves and branches. But next year the herd will double, making grazing much more difficult. There is also a shortage of shepherds,” Karpenko explained.
The farm is also gradually upgrading its equipment. It is installing a DeLaval P300SG-2×18 parallel milking parlor and plans to purchase high-quality imported cheesemaking equipment, although it currently operates with domestic machinery.
“Next year, after kidding season, we expect milk output to rise from 300 liters per day to 600–700 liters. Our goal is contactless milking, which ensures pathogen-free milk, provided the goats are healthy,” the farm owner added.
