Winter Sowing Campaign Nearing Finish, And It Is Only December

The sowing campaign for winter crops is coming to an end. Farmers have almost finished planting wheat, sown more barley than planned, and there are surprises with rapeseed too.

As reported by ASAP Agri, as of early December, winter sowing in Ukraine is practically finished. Specifically:

  • winter wheat was sown on 4.74 million hectares — this is 99% of the forecast, which is significantly higher than last year’s figure (88%);
  • winter barley was sown on 597 thousand hectares, or 101% of the forecast, although last year they managed it even better – at 103%;
  • winter rapeseed occupied 1.1 million hectares, which constitutes 98% of the forecast, while the Odesa region demonstrated an unexpected increase in area.

Overall, farmers managed the sowing campaign well, and the sector demonstrated predictability and stability.
