The harvesting campaign and the sowing of winter crops for the 2026 harvest have been completed in Zaporizhzhia region. Despite the fact that 80% of arable land (1.5 million hectares) remains in occupied or frontline territories, farmers processed 380 thousand hectares — more than four times less than before the war.

According to Valentyna Kramarenko, Director of the Department of Agro-Industrial Development of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration, the gross grain harvest amounted to 314.8 thousand tons — 81 thousand tons less than last year. The average yield decreased to 24.3 c/ha. Most wheat was harvested — 265.6 thousand tons from 106.6 thousand hectares. The yield of barley increased to 26.8 c/ha, and rapeseed — to 23.8 c/ha.

Due to drought, frost, and heat, farmers were unable to harvest crops on 3.3 thousand hectares. Corn was particularly affected — only 3 thousand tons were harvested from 4.3 thousand hectares. 97.7 thousand tons of sunflower seeds were threshed — almost half as much as in 2024.

122.9 thousand hectares were sown under the winter wedge, including 93.9 thousand hectares of wheat, 2.1 thousand hectares of barley, 400 hectares of rye, and 26.5 thousand hectares of rapeseed. Despite the losses, farmers continue to work, ensuring food stability in the region.
