Freight from Ukraine: Rates at a Turning Point

Amid intensified attacks on port infrastructure and increasingly frequent damage to commercial vessels, a growing number of shipowners are suspending calls to the ports of Greater Odesa, ProAgro Group reports.

According to ASAP Agri, at the beginning of last week the market still saw a significant number of Handysize vessel offers for shipments of Ukrainian grain. However, market sentiment soon shifted, with shipowners becoming more cautious.

“Further developments remain to be assessed,” the analysts noted.

At the same time, tonnage supply for grain shipments from Danube ports continues to enter the market, keeping freight rates in this segment largely stable.

As previously reported, insurance costs for commercial vessels operating in the Black Sea tripled in December 2025 and, according to international brokers, are expected to continue rising due to increased risks to navigation.
