One-third of spring crops area already sown in Volyn region

Spring fieldwork in the Volyn region is progressing under favorable weather conditions, giving grounds for cautious optimism regarding the 2026 harvest, ProAgro Group reports.

According to the Department of Agro-Industrial Development of the Volyn Regional State Administration, the total sowing area in the region is expected to reach 585 thousand hectares – the same as last year.

As of March 30, 42 thousand hectares have been sown with spring grains and legumes, which is one-third of the planned area. Peas have already been fully sown, spring wheat is nearly 90% complete, barley is over 80%, and oats have reached three-quarters of the forecast. At the same time, sowing of industrial crops has begun: sugar beets occupy 6 thousand hectares, which equals two-thirds of the planned area.

According to the agricultural department, the further pace of work will depend on temperature conditions. With stable warming, farms will move to mass sowing of sunflower, corn, and soybeans.

Winter crops for the 2026 harvest in the Volyn region cover 206 thousand hectares, with winter wheat accounting for the largest share – 140 thousand hectares. All areas received the first application of nitrogen fertilizers before mid-March.

As reported, in 2025 farmers in the Volyn region achieved the highest average yield of sugar beets in Ukraine – 77 tonnes per hectare.
