Road grain transport costs rise in Ukraine, corn dominates shipments

Road transportation costs for grain in Ukraine increased last week, with corn accounting for the largest share of shipments — about 60% of total volumes, according to market data. Wheat represented 23%, barley 9%, and sunflower 8%, ProAgro Group reports.

According to Ukrvantazh AGRO, freight rates to seaports from central regions such as Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Poltava, and Vinnytsia ranged between UAH 1,250–1,800 per tonne (including VAT). From Mykolaiv region, rates averaged UAH 750–850/t, while from Ternopil region they stood at UAH 550–650/t.

Transportation prices increased across most regions, primarily driven by rising fuel costs. However, deliveries from more distant regions such as Poltava and Zhytomyr slightly decreased by UAH 50–75/t.

Diesel prices rose sharply during the week, increasing by nearly 8.5%. As of March 20, the average price reached UAH 81.25 per liter, up from UAH 74.91 the previous week.

Earlier reports indicated that Ukraine slightly increased road exports of agricultural products in early March, reaching about 124.7 thousand tonnes for the period of March 1–12.
