On January 7, russia carried out another missile and drone attack on port infrastructure in Ukraine’s Odesa region. Two ports were hit during the strike, according to ProAgro Group.
As a result of the attack, one person was killed and at least five others were injured with varying degrees of severity. All the wounded are receiving necessary medical assistance. Local authorities expressed condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased.
According to preliminary information, the shelling damaged port infrastructure facilities, administrative buildings, as well as containers filled with vegetable oil. The extent of the damage is still being assessed to determine the total losses.
Emergency services, law enforcement agencies and port specialists are working at the sites. Cleanup and recovery operations are ongoing in compliance with safety requirements, taking into account the risk of repeated attacks.
Despite the damage and the difficult security situation, the ports of the Odesa region continue to operate. According to relevant services, port operations are being restored to the extent possible in order to maintain logistics chains and export shipments, particularly of agricultural products.
As previously reported, over the past three months russia has significantly intensified attacks on Ukraine’s maritime logistics, damaging at least 20 commercial vessels and destroying or severely damaging nearly 50 port infrastructure facilities. On January 5, 2026, a russian drone struck a Bunge oilseed processing plant in Dnipro, causing 300 tonnes of oil to spill onto the city’s embankment.
