Tecom Agro Group Begins Fertilization of Winter Crops

The agribusiness association Tecom Agro Group is continuing a comprehensive set of field operations to fertilize winter crops. The company has developed an effective scheme and application rates for UAN-32 (urea–ammonium nitrate solution), which it considers one of the most optimal fertilizers for feeding cereals, ProAgro Group reports.

According to the company’s press service, winter wheat and winter barley are currently being fertilized at Chornomorets LLC in Odesa region. The availability of a Berthoud Raptor self-propelled sprayer in the farm’s machinery fleet allows large areas to be covered efficiently and ensures uniform, high-quality application of UAN-32 on thawing frozen soil.

“As for UAN application rates, we apply 198 kg/ha for winter wheat and 120 l/ha for winter barley. Prior to that, ammonium sulfate was applied across all winter crop areas. Sulfur increases plant stress resistance and promotes the release of other macronutrients in the soil, while UAN—with its three nitrogen forms (nitrate, ammonium, and amide)—enhances nitrogen fertilizer efficiency and availability to plants. As a result, the overall effectiveness of all applied fertilizers on winter crops increases,” said Ivan Olovatskyi, Deputy Director for Production at Chornomorets.

Rapeseed also has a high nitrogen demand, and nitrogen fertilizers are essential for forming optimal vegetative mass and achieving strong seed yields, the company noted.

Winter fertilization of winter rapeseed with UAN-32 on thawing frozen soil has also begun at Southern Agrofirm, operating in the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district. According to Ruslan Hrytsenko, Deputy Director for Production, UAN is applied in liquid form at a rate of 200 l/ha, using a John Deere self-propelled sprayer.

As reported earlier, 1.1 million hectares of winter rapeseed were sown in Ukraine for the 2026 harvest, with Odesa region showing an unexpected increase in oilseed acreage.
