Truck Transportation of Grain Continues to Become More Expensive

In late March and early April, the main volumes of road grain transportation in Ukraine were concentrated in the northern and central regions. The most active routes remained those from Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Kyiv, Kirovohrad, and Zhytomyr regions toward port hubs in the Odesa region, according to ProAgro Group.

According to Ukrvantazh AGRO, transportation costs from Chernihiv and Zhytomyr regions ranged from UAH 1,800 to 2,100 per ton (VAT included). Rates from Kyiv region stood at UAH 1,400–1,700 per ton, from Cherkasy region at UAH 1,200–1,300 per ton, and from Kirovohrad region at UAH 950–1,150 per ton.

Corn dominated the transport structure, accounting for up to 70% of total shipments. The share of sunflower also increased to 17%. Meanwhile, wheat and barley volumes remained relatively small at 7% and 6%, respectively.

At the same time, fuel prices continue to rise. As of April 3, the average retail price of diesel fuel reached UAH 87.63 per liter, up by UAH 2.4 per liter (+2.8%) compared to the beginning of the week.

As reported earlier, road freight rates increased across most regions in March, primarily due to rising fuel costs.
