Ukraine exports 270,000 tonnes of sugar in the first half of the season

In the first half of the 2025/26 marketing year (September–February), Ukraine exported 270 thousand tonnes of sugar, ProAgro Group reports citing the National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine (Ukrsugar).

The largest export destinations during this period were Lebanon (29% of total shipments), Syria (17%), and the European Union (14%). Other key importers included North Macedonia (6%) and Mauritania (5%).

For comparison, in the first half of the 2024/25 MY sugar exports exceeded 300 thousand tonnes, with a significantly larger share directed to the EU market. In the current season, exports have shifted more toward the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, driven by price conditions as well as regulatory restrictions and quotas in the EU market.

Market experts note that the growing share of MENA countries reflects increasing competition in the European market and a more active search for alternative sales channels.

According to industry estimates, total Ukrainian sugar exports in 2025/26 MY could reach 550–600 thousand tonnes, provided logistics remain stable and external demand is sustained.

Earlier, it was reported that the 2025 sugar production season in Ukraine officially ended on February 1, 2026, with total output reaching 1.72 million tonnes. Government Resolution No. 1795 dated December 31, 2025, sets an export quota of 100 thousand tonnes of sugar to the EU for 2026.
