Ukraine increased fertilizer imports by 13% in 2025

In 2025, Ukraine significantly increased imports of mineral fertilizers, with total volumes reaching 3.285 million tonnes, up 13.3% year-on-year compared to 2024 (2.898 million tonnes), ProAgro Group. Growth was recorded across almost all fertilizer categories, with nitrogen fertilizers showing the strongest increase.

According to InfoIndustry, imports of key fertilizer types totaled 3.058 million tonnes. Nitrogen fertilizers (N) accounted for the largest share at 1.772 million tonnes, confirming the trend toward active stockpiling of this group. Supplies of compound NPK fertilizers reached 698 thousand tonnes, NP fertilizers — 433 thousand tonnes, potash (K) — 182 thousand tonnes, phosphate (P) — 104 thousand tonnes, sulfur-based (S) — 53 thousand tonnes, and PK fertilizers — 41 thousand tonnes.

Analysts note that actual import volumes exceeded earlier expectations by 120 thousand tonnes, forecasts that had been made in mid-2025. This indicates an aggressive procurement campaign despite the presence of significant carryover stocks in several key fertilizer categories.

As previously reported, Andrii Khaliavka, director and owner of grossdorf, one of Ukraine’s leading mineral fertilizer producers, believes that the Ukrainian fertilizer market may face a shortage of nitrogen fertilizers in early 2026.
